The year in review, part one

Tomorrow is my 34th birthday, and I have been trying to be reflective, with the new year and all that.
I used to be quite the thinker, analyzing every day, picking it apart for all the meat and marrow. I don't do that anymore, either because motherhood has sucked all the cells from my brain, or I am just more mature and accepting of things when they come along.
Things I learned, discovered, saw or experienced in 2006:

1. House sparrows suck.

2. Tree swallows are some of the bravest birds in the world.

3. Rabbits will eat a chokeberry tree.

4. People who are not engineers should not dig a marsh on their property.

5. If you pout long enough, your husband will buy you a new camera.

6. I got to meet Chet Baker.

7. Oh, and Bill, Julie, Phoebe and Liam, too.

8. Blogging is cool.

9. Sometimes surgery doesn't work out the way you want.

10. A colonoscopy is just so fun.

11. Cats are capable of disapproval, too.

12. A rat is capable of stealing your heart.

13. Scent is a huge trigger for memories.

14. Snakes can live in your yard for years and years and you may never see them.

15. Hate doesn't really have any room in my heart.

16. Volunteering in a field you care about can lead to a new path.

There's alot more where that came from, but I want to go and read YOUR blogs now.
I have cultivated true friendships stemming from this blog, and for that I am forever grateful. I have learned, I have laughed, I have cried. All of you are just the best.

And to think I started this blog "just because everyone else seems to be doing it".

It's amazing what blogging can do for and to your life isn't it? I've made some great friends (one being you), too! You've had some really cool things happen last year! Here's to more great things to come this year!
Please don't look at my blog until after midnight :D

I great thing about blogging is true about any kind of journaling. You can see how you and your ideas have developed and matured. Happy birthday! And many more happy ones ahead for you.

Susan, I have lots of work to do here at the office, but I took some time to "go back" in time, visiting your blog. All of those posts were great but I especially enjoyed "Scent is a huge trigger for memories." It's so true! Just the other day, I was walking across a mall parking lot and smelled Easter (weird on a parking lot, huh?) and could picture the Easter Baskets I got each year, wrapped in purple cellophane. Oh, well, enough of that. Back to work.
