Susan, we've got to get you out more and bring up that life list number! Come to Cape May - I promise it won't rain!

Or maybe we could go hunting for that Great Gray together!

;-)

You and LauraH should come up to Minnesota this winter to hunt the Great Gray Owl. I think Birdchick is doing a bird trip with Stan Tekiela to the Sax-Zim Bog (the best place to find them)

We would have a BLAST!!!

Hmmm. Nice idea, Lynne! What do you say, Laura? Let's go to Minnesota!
I better write to Sharon and ask when she is doing the trip.

Fun quiz. OK if I answer here? (since I don't have a blog.)

What state (or country) do you live in? Ohio

How long have you been birding?
"Officially" since 1994 (12 years) when I decided to start sorting out all the "little brown birds" and when I went on my first "warbler walk", but I have been watching feeder birds since childhood. (No, you may not ask how long that is!)

Are you a "lister"?
Yes

ABA Life List:
don't know for sure

Overall Life List:
252 (Includes birds seen outside the USA, which is the difference between this and the ABA list)

Favorite Birding Spots:
Magee Marsh, Oak Openings, Cincinnati Nature Center, Crooked Run Nature Preserve (Clermont Co, OH), and my own back yard

Favorite birding spot outside your home country:
Scotland, in the Highlands

Farthest you've traveled to chase a rare bird:
Wilmington, OH (about 50 miles) for a Snowy Owl in 2001

Nemesis bird:
Blue Grosbeak

"Best" bird sighting:
Lark Sparrow at Oak Openings; any Red-headed Woodpecker; watching an Osprey eat a fish across the road from my house; nesting Bald Eagles with eaglets, Higginsport, Brown Co, OH

Most wanted trip:
ummm - don't know. I'm going to New River, WVa next May, but I'd love to travel to exotic locales, like Africa, Central America, Australia, or Hawaii

Most wanted bird:
One of the rarer warblers - Canada, Kirkland's, something like that

What model and brand of bins do you use?:
I have 2 - a 7x25 pair by Celestron that I use for watching out my windows, and an 8x42 pair (not sure of maker; says "Equinox" on them) that I take into the field

What model and brand of scope do you use?:
Eagle Optics Raven, angled w/ 20-60x zoom lens

What was the last lifer you added to your list?: Blackpoll warbler (I have added 34 Lifers to my List this year, thanks to birding trips)

Headlands Beach State Park, on Lake Erie, 9/30/06

Northern Mockingbird. I could listen to mockers all day. I love their talent!

nest-checking (Bluebirds and other cavity-nesters in my yard)

Least favorite thing about birding:
Summer birding - hate the heat and humidity

Favorite thing about birding:
communing with Nature

Favorite field guide for the US:
my trusty old Peterson's eastern Field Guide, 4th edition - I have had it since 1980, and although I own several others, it is always the one I go to first.

Favorite non-field guide bird book:
Stokes' Guide to Bird Behavior (3 volume set)

Who is your birder icon?:
icon? or "idol"? I have several birding mentors who have taught me a lot; too many to list here.
