I'm going down to Yasgur's farm......back to the garden......

Hang onto your monitors, y'all. We are going back in time.
Geoff did some mid-Winter cleaning today and pulled out a bunch of old stuff that I haven't looked at in years.

WARNING: Semi-nekked pictures ahead. If you are younger than 18, you can't look.
Adults, let's move on.

The year: 1999
The place: Rome, New York
The event: Woodstock III.
I went to the 1994 Woodstock with a boyfriend, and it was rainy, muddy, peaceful and wonderful. I got to experience Melissa Etheridge, I fainted during Crosby, Stills and Nash, and it was a memory that I am happy to think back on.
1999 was a different story. I went with Geoff and another couple. It was at an old Air Force base, and it was hot, there was no shade, not enough water or garbage cans, and at the end there were riots, rapes and chaos. Everything you may have seen on the news about it was true. It was awful. Yasgur's farm, it was NOT.

Trailer people
The only shade was under the refrigerated tractor trailers. See the people huddled under there? See the trash? It was everywhere.

And lots of people sans clothing:

Naked rainbow guy
This guy was naked except for paint. (The one on the left...in the rainbow colors)

Naked thumbs up guy
The "Thumbs Up" naked guy...

Naked Ray Ray chick
Oh, we remember this one well. The only place you could get beer was in the "beer gardens" and I don't think this chick left the garden once. Her chest had "Ray Ray" painted on it. What a lucky guy, that Ray Ray.

Susan the Wood Nymph:

Wood nymph
Flowers behind my ear, and a friend put my hair in cornrows so I wouldn't have to worry about doing my hair. See how happy I was? That is because it was the first day and we hadn't entered the festival yet.
I have no idea what I was doing here
Not sure why I was on the ground, waiting for the shuttle bus. But whatever it was, I was happy about it.

Susan's had enough
By the end of the second day, I had had enough. Sunburned, dehydrated...

The young lovers
Awww. Look at the young lovers.
The best thing that happened on that trip was that Geoff and I got so close. We had been dating for just a few months at that point and after it was all over, we realized that if we could survive Woodstock '99, we could survive anything. Together.

(And coincidentally, I don't think we have sat together like that since.)

Sunburned, dehydrated and happy
Why am I so happy? Because we were leaving. Check the sunburn lines...my skin had never been the same since.

Oh Susan.. you look young and in love!

BTW, I think I was broken down on the NY Thruway during that Woodstock - awful memories there too.

I spent my twenties seeing all the music I could possibly see in the bay area. YEAH! However, I avoided multi-day festivals like the plague. That was one thing I did not want to do. Was the music any good?

Wow -- I'm pretty sure that I would have despised that with a wild and intense passion. You could muster a smile at the end -- that's impressive!

I enjoy concerts but not that much! You are brave!

I love the comparision between your sprawled out picture and the one of your daughter from a few days back! Too funny!

-llm.

I so miss my concert days! Although mine were more fun than yours though! But, we didn't have all those "naturalist" running around like that!

HA! I love those yellow dots!!
You look so young and happy in that last picture. I can see both of your girls in that face.

The pic of you laying flat triggered a recent memory of the pink doll I love so much! LOL!

Young and in love. Hey, I did some math and it was only 9 years ago? Woo Hoo!

I hope the music was good, at least.

You look beautiful in the last photo.

And the fingernails were blue then too! (What's up with that?)

Heh. Kinda reminds me of Burning Man -- except for the trash. BMan is rather adamant about Leave No Trace.
