Have I mentioned that I love my camera?

After taking Isabelle to school, Lorelei and I went to Lake Isabella to play with the camera some more. And we found an interesting duck. This male mallard had a body part missing:

Here you can see the mallard's left leg.
And here you don't see the mallard's right leg.
I did see him on land for a few minutes, and somehow he could move about. It was awkward and painful to watch, but he seems to be doing okay.

Mr. Mallard, do you need a bib?
One of the reasons I don't mind Fall and Winter is the white-breasted nuthatch. This camera is awesome! I actually caught him with a seed in his mouth!

(How do I know he is a he? Male nuthatches have a black cap, while the females

have a gray cap.)

I have always had trouble photographing tufted titmice. They are fast, spazzy birds. But this one paused in his peanut cracking to look around, and he just happened to be sitting in the sun. Oh, yeah!

Susan,
Those first three photos. I was very surprised to see those.

This time of year, and this far east, isn't it unusual to see the Western Water Loon?

You may have mis-identified the bird. You can tell this bird by the looney look in its eye.
