One sweet little fuzzy head

The official count of chicks in the Lake Isabella Great Horned Owl nest stands at ONE. (The chick is that whitish-gray fuzz on the left of the can.)

(Photo by Roman J. (Jack) Verdin)

I watched with Jack for quite a while, and he promised that the adult feeds the chick every hour or so. I didn't get to see any action today, but I'm sure he's telling the truth. He's the Unofficial OwlSitter.

(And he reads the blog. Hi, Jack!)

So cute!! I can't wait to see more pictures.

It's nice of Jack to nest sit.

Me, too--I enlarged the pic, and I am in love with the little chick.
Seriously, I think raptor chicks are the cutest--fuzzy little critters with half shut eyes.
Every year, I tune in to the web-cam on our Dpt. of Environmental Protection in Harrisburg--we have a nesting pair of peregrines here and the eyasses are regular stars.

Hmmm... are you sure somebody didn't drop a little midget Snowy Owl in that nest, Susan? That's an awfully cute little ball of fuzz!

Sweet! I gotta try for photos this year. My ones from the previous nest were awful.

How long till the "branching" stage, do you know?
