Wow, Susan! That was great, we could hear it really well!

Nice! We've lived in our current location for about 4 years now and had only heard a Screech Owl once or twice... but now there is an odd one who wakes us up at night with his calls so nearby. It's a strange sound combo though, like he can't decide which call to use. I'm hoping to get it on film some day. (Now that I'm prepared he won't come back, of course!)

When I was calling the dog the other night, a coyote answered me -- I guess my voice sounds like howling!

That is awesome, heard it perfectly! Very vocal little guy, normally I really need to get my birds going before it will respond! BRAVO Video Post Susan!

I have called in many owls using my voice. Had a Screech almost land on my head in the backyard one night. Had called in Great Horneds, Barreds too with voice. Never thought of making a video of it. It is a good way to get beginners interested in birds. The only thing you have to watch out for is barreds and GH attacking the screechs.

Susan, you rock. I heard the screech owl very well. I don't think I've heard one here before.

One the cover of the book I see a Belted Kingkisher and a male Evening Grosbeak? LOL! Nerf bat me!

Great video Susan. Seems like this would be a great location to post a Screech Owl nesting box! Come on join the club.

Donald: Yeah, I worry about the BO's and the GHO's....but Mom hasn't seen or heard any in years, and I hope that the screech owls kept their heads down regardless. I think those woods are too thick for GHO's, but a BO just MIGHT be lurking. She does have the diurnal BO counterpart, red-shouldered hawks.

Owlman: Funny you should say that. My Mom has a brand-new screech owl box, ready to go up! We have been deciding which tree to put it on...we will wait until Spring is near, so we don't have to deal with nest-packing squirrels.

Susan,

THANK YOU! Little did I know I had the perfect book for calling in birds. Tom and the girls got me that book for Mother's Day last year. Thanks for the post. You are so rockin' the Queen City.

Wow! Neat!

Do other owls sound like that, or just screechers? I hear owls like that in my (urban residential) neighborhood in Denver all the time. Here's one I saw (but did not hear) last spring. Is that a screech owl?

Good work teasing that lonely screech owl :)

I've made homes for both squirrels and screech owls. Currently the families are living less than 20' apart in my backyard.

You can peer into the screech owl nest at

Predicted hatching dates start 4/3/2008.
