What is the white thing hanging out of my guppy

Mary's taking a break...
Beth has gone private...
These and other things have lead me to thinking about my blog and what it means. What it really means.
When I began doing this, back in October 2005, I had no lofty goals. I wasn't out to change the world. Well, I haven't, but that's okay.
My cousin Cathy is to blame for me trying this out.
"A blog? What's that?"
And now, I sit here every night and either:
1. Have twisted my ankle running down here to share my day with all of you, or
2. Scratch my head and try to come up with something that's even remotely near to interesting.
I've met the neatest, funniest, most interesting people through this little monitor, and I have seen people's blogs who really need medication and restraints. On the whole, my experience has been very pleasant, with only one troll so far (fingers and eyes are crossed that I don't get any more).
So, what does blogging mean to me?

Wait for it....

Answer:
Hell if I know. All I can say is that I like it.

Beauty thy name is Lorelei
I don't care what you say, but I make pretty children.
I wuv you, Powder
"I wuv you, Powder."

Still growing...
The pipevine is taking a beating
...and eating. My Lord, those little guys are beating the tar out of the Dutchman's Pipe. But I don't care. That's why I planted it, so a critter could use it. And they are only eating the fresh, new leaves. Smart little guys.

Have you ever researched Google threads to see how people find your blog?
I used SiteMeter to see how people find me. Most of the time, it's through another blog, so no mystery there. But sometimes, people find me by doing a Google search for these:
(Some of them I can understand, because I have blogged about the subject,
or something close to it...if you want to see what they found on my blog, do a "Search This Blog" for the keywords)

  • trouble drinking gallon before colonoscopy
  • beer and dish soap to treat lawn
  • eradicating mites in purple martin bird nests
  • home made bee trap mountain dew dish soap
  • what is the white thing hanging out of my guppy (LOL!)
  • doves and human interaction
  • do you need to trim beard tongue for it to bloom again?
  • it takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.
  • baby raccoon screeching
  • Vicodin for my uti
  • pet rat lonesome for lost sister?
  • why do people hate house sparrows
  • plant spiderwort itchy hands
  • stopping robins from digging in cocoa bean mulch
  • caterpillars that eat sunflower leaves
  • small yellow fuzzy caterpillar eating my flowers
  • tall weed purple stalk Cincinnati
I'm also listed on a few random blogs...here's one that I didn't know about until today:
Natural History Blogs
And then, there are searches where I have to wonder about:

  • cute names pertaining to hotels
  • Hawaiian punch garden statue

My favorite of all time...and a bit scary if you think about why someone would be searching for this:

  • girls eaten by raptors.

Hi Susan,

I'm up late tonight because I took a nap today :o) You are my last stop.

I scratch my head often, too. "What in the hell will I say tonight?" Why do I love to blog?

You said, Answer:
Hell if I know. All I can say is that I like it.

Same here. I miss it when I don't do it. But I'm taking naps and recharging my batteries.

You do make cute kids! The two girls in one river was awesome.

I don't know how people find me. I have new visitors often and it's kind of scary, actually. I don't venture out because I'm swamped with other things and can hardly keep up with my favorite blogs. You have a HUGE amount of readers and I understand why. You are a feeler, too. And you know a lot.

Are you feeling better?

I must be one of the ones needing medication and restraints.

;-)

Are you planning something spectacular for Geoff's big day?

I noticed that about Beth's blog, too. I wonder what's up?

You do make cute kids and have the best caterpillars - lucky you!

I get such a kick out of seeing the Google searches that bring people to my blog - really makes you wonder just WHAT people are thinking, doesn't it?

I have always wondered how folks come my way. I figure most are family, I make them. They do not comment.

Then there are my cyber friends, YIPPY! I should figure out how to track that. It would be interesting.

And you do grow those girls cute! Love those big eyes!

Oh and btw, I am amazed and honored that you listed my post about Cordova as a post that rocks. Boy, that was a good trip.

Thanks!

You make cute kids for sure! Oh yeah, you should see the interesting searches for my blog too. 'Girls eaten by raptors,' now that's just plain scary.
OMG you are a riot - I was just looking around at your blog, and saw you listed my sideways waterfalls as a post that rocks! Thanks!
Hmmm, what's a "minty" mood like?
I'm still trying to come up with eight things. I've got one so far.

Susan, that's great idea to put posts that rock on your sidebar! Thanks for remembering A Simple Dog day. I had forgotten all about that day! Maybe I should dip into my archives once in a while.

I really like that idea.

I saw the title of your post in Google Reader and was SOOOOOO Afraid that you'd be posting a picture of "something white coming out of a guppy" Glad you were restrained! :)

THe whole "how did people find me" thing is amazing.

I've been thinking alot about why and how I blog too . . . no answers, just a lot of thoughts.

I think blogging is done by the same sort of people who kept diaries in the past. It is therapeutic to document events, feelings and ideas. For me, readers are a great bonus, but I would keep doing it anyway. My strangest Google search hit was "why does nursing home poo smell like cabbage?" How that inquiry led them to my blog I will never know!

You DO make beautiful children! I REALLY understand that joy...

I did the google hit thing through sitemeter, too, and it was always fascinating. A little unnerving, at times...my most common hits were folks in search of a U2 song that I had quoted. Interesting...but not as much as 'girls eaten by raptors'.

Do you know any girls who have been eaten by raptors?
