I am rather proud of myself. I have successfully grown my own food. It's quite a rush.
I don't remember what kind of lettuce this is, but it sure is pretty! (Laura, help me out...know what this is?)

Only one lettuce plant survived all this heat, so Geoff and I will enjoy a small but homegrown salad tomorrow night.

Looks like green-leaf lettuce (technical answer, that).
Most of mine bolted or was eaten by the groundhogs, but I did get a salad or two worth of red and green oak leaf (yummy!) planted some sort of red romaine which did nothing, and the green lead I planted bolted within a week of planting.
I think lettuce has to be planted really early and late with our climate. Someday I'll have my act together to do it properly - before the groundhog wakes up from his winter siesta and before it gets too hot.

I was draining it in that picture (I soaked it in salt water to kill any critters)
I started all my veggies inside from seed really early in the spring...next year, the lettuce goes somewhere cooler.
