Getting used to an "old" camera

I have been trying out my Dad's "old" Nikon. It uses film, but has some really cool electronic features.
(Most of which I know zilch about)

I got some nice shots...
weird how used to a digital I am...I have to WAIT to see the pictures?

The shot of Nellie is gorgeous, Susan. Certainly a keeper!

I have a nice SLR that I never use anymore - very spoiled by the instant gratification of a digital - but really miss the control of the SLR.

Laura,
Thanks for the praise. I was hoping to capture that relaxed, floppy look that Nellie does so well.
I love the auto focus on this camera...my digital chooses what's in focus for me, and sometimes I want to do something "arty" and I can't. My digital is a pretty cheap one...I bet the top-of-the-line ones do amazing stuff.
But I am enjoying Dad's camera. Every time I press the shutter, I think of what he would say about the shot.

Well, you sure got the floppy look! That's a pic I'm sure you'll treasure in the years to come.

Taking a pic of a white cat next to a window is tricky business - it's hard not to overexpose - you have to compensate for what the camera's eye sees.

I have my eye on the Canon Digital Rebel that I can use with my fancy lenses - but I want to take a photography class first and learn to use all the bells and whistles - and finally understand f-stops and shutter speeds first!

Isn't it nice to have something of your dad's that you can use and appreciate and be reminded of him?
