Oh, WHO art thou, Romeo?

A few nights ago, the temperature allowed us to open the windows. As I was getting ready for bed, I realized that I was hearing a bird sing. It was nearly midnight:
What the heck is singing at midnight? I listened harder...definitely not an owl.
Suddenly I heard a phrase that I recognized: A red-tailed hawk cry. A hawk? At night?
Then, the song changed again: A cardinal.
What the Hell?
The song went on to confuse me...blue jay, hawk again, and so on through a list
about 7 birds long, until I was actually getting mad at the damn thing.
What bird sounds like 7 different kinds of birds?
It took me until the next day to figure it out.
I remembered reading a line in Birds of Ohio that male mockingbirds, when defending their territory and trying to get the ladies' attention, will, in the Spring, sing day AND night.
I felt pretty stupid that it took me so long.

*That's why they're called Mockingbirds, ding-a-ling!*

Warning: This post sucks.

This kid cries bloody murder when I want to put her in adorable pigtails, but she loves it when I suck up her hair and nose in the vacuum ???

Did I miss something in Mommy 101?

In case you are wondering why I was brandishing the Hoover at Lorelei...
She crushed an entire box of Goldfish into her lap and I was repairing the damage to the armchair.

At last

The book is finished, and has been sent to the editor at Rodale. Mark your calendars for May 2007 for the release of The Bunion Derby by Geoffrey F. Williams.

Quote of the day

Some sort of nut trees at the Mason Dog Park

Trees are the earth's endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.
Rabindranath Tagore
The girls, Nellie and I went to our local dog park today, to yet again give Geoff some peace and quiet to finish that darn book. I am thrilled that my husband is so brilliant and talented,
but I will be so happy when this book is put to bed.
Anyway...the dog park was pretty quiet (maybe 5 dogs, including Nellie-belly)
so I started taking pictures of the awesome trees around me. I was feeling a Zen-like bliss coming over me as I saw a red-bellied woodpecker fly to a
nest hole!!
right above me...
And then Isabelle said she had to go to the bathroom.
By the time we got back, the woodpecker was gone.
Sigh.
Oh well. At least Nellie had a good time.

Someone is either a genius, or truly evil

Go check out Laura's blog, to see some office pranks that are either works of art, or the work of the devil.

Nobody had better make me mad any time soon, or this may happen to you.
hee~hee

News Alert! Pope Has Bird Flu

I just heard that the Pope has bird flu . Early reports say that he got it from a Cardinal.
April Fools!

No foolin', it's April!

April comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.
