It's that time again....
To Guess the Friday Feathers!
The bird that these feathers are attached to, nests in every county in the U.S.
Myths about this bird:
Arctic Circle: a little girl was turned into a bird with a long beak by magic, but was so frightened she flapped about madly and flew into a wall, flattening her face and beak. So the ****** was created.
Cameroon: too evil to name, the *******is known only as "the bird that makes you afraid"
Peru: boiled ******* is said to be a strong medicine.

A Buzzard.
ReplyDeleteSecond choice would be the elusive Cameroon Loon.
owlish feathers - must be a GHO.
ReplyDelete;-)
Looks owlish to me too. WHAT is it? Beautiful feathers. Wing feather?
ReplyDeleteI agree with "owl," based on the leading edge of the feather. Nests in every county of the US? Screech owl?
ReplyDeleteKathi beat me! I'll guess screech owl too.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anonymous.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing Barred Owl.
ReplyDeleteIt is a GHO. GHO has the most widespread range compared to Eastern Screech and Barred. Wing feather I say.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Laura and Donald. GHO is the only one with year-round presence throughout the US.
ReplyDeleteSo, a GHO? What's the answer?
ReplyDeleteLooks like some kind of owl. And I must add, I am Peruvian and never heard about a boiled bird other than chicken... But this is a BIG country and most traditional medicine is from the rainforest and the mountains, and I'm in the coast.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know exactly what you mean about that 'medicine', I know having owls sitting on your roof are considered bad luck, as if someone in the house what about to die...
